Understanding Wirt County Releases
Wirt County does not operate a local county jail. The Wirt County Sheriff's Office makes arrests and handles prisoner transport, while the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation operates North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Greenwood. That regional facility serves Wirt and seven other counties. As a result, the official custody transaction for most Wirt County released inmates belongs to WVDCR, not to a sheriff-hosted roster.
Release ends one booking or sentence segment. It does not always mean that a person went home. Bond, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, parole, probation, and another court order can lead to community departure. A transfer to a state prison, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody also removes someone from the regional-jail listing. The release or departure record should identify which event occurred. A court order explains the legal basis, while the facility record establishes the physical exit.

Why Wirt Releases Use North Central
Wirt County has no documented local jail. North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility opened in August 2001 in neighboring Doddridge County and serves eight counties, including Wirt. That regional history explains why a search on the Wirt sheriff website does not produce a local jail roster or release archive. The sheriff controls the locally created arrest and transport trail, while WVDCR controls the primary custody data after booking at North Central.
The facility's combined name also matters. North Central can hold regional-jail detainees, sentenced populations, and people connected to other authorities. A result must be matched through the committing county, arresting agency, case number, OID, and identity fields. Facility-wide statistics cannot be treated as Wirt County release figures. The sound question is which custody transaction ended and which agency received or released the person next.

A second warrant, detainer, or court process can prevent a person from reaching the community even after one case authorizes release. That is why the method and destination fields matter as much as the departure date.

Not every field will appear on one public screen. The formal record is stronger than an inferred status from a missing search result. Ask for existing fields, not for the agency to create a new analysis.

WVDCR warns that online information changes quickly and may not show the true location, release date, or status. Record the exact field label and access date. For a past state-prison discharge that cannot be resolved online, request the time, method, destination, and discharge certificate.
Wirt County Release Feed Limits
Neither the Wirt sheriff nor NCRJCF publishes a verified rolling 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. The sheriff site has no jail roster, released-person gallery, or inmate release app. WVDCR says jail information updates regularly, but it gives no exact refresh interval or post-release display period.

Does a court order prove the exit time? No. Processing or another hold may delay departure. Compare the order with the facility transaction.
Getting Home After Wirt Release
North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is outside Wirt County in rural Greenwood. Its official visitation rules state that no local transportation or bus service is available and that the nearest taxis are in Clarksburg and Parkersburg. No government ride, public release schedule, pickup point, or daily release hour was verified.
Confirm the departure and current pickup instructions with NCRJCF at 304-873-1384 before arranging a ride. Advance planning matters because a court event may precede physical release and a transfer may change the destination. The official NCRJCF rules support the transportation warning but do not authorize assumptions about a specific person's time or exit location.
Note: A verified release time helps coordinate a private pickup, but only the facility can give current directions for that departure.
Wirt Release Reentry Resources
NCRJCF publishes a regional resource guide that includes West Virginia 211, Help4WV, and Westbrook Health Services. These are broad navigation, treatment, identification, and community-resource contacts. They are not proof of release, and the guide does not establish a Wirt-only reentry program.
A person released to parole must handle the first supervision report separately. WVDCR guidance says parolees report within 24 hours or the next business day. An automated telephone notification is acknowledged by entering the PIN followed by the number sign. West Virginia also delays a transfer call until the person reaches the destination for safety. An alert is a prompt to confirm the event with the reporting facility. Ask whether it meant community release, parole, a state transfer, or movement to another authority. The facility record still supplies the official method and destination.
Wirt County Release Supervision
Parole and probation are separate Wirt County release paths.
