A transport record may identify North Central as the destination, but the later jail record is still needed to show when and why that custody ended.

Search regional-jail OIS for a person taken to North Central. A current match supports jail custody at the time of access, subject to WVDCR's accuracy warning. A missing match does not prove release.

1. Confirm the full name, aliases, DOB, arrest date range, case number, and arresting agency from the Wirt record.
2. Search WVDCR jail OIS and Daily Incarcerations for the North Central booking, without treating admissions as releases.
3. Call North Central at 304-873-1384 and ask whether staff can confirm departure or identify the record custodian.
4. Check West Virginia VINE and both Wirt court levels for a custody event and its legal basis.
5. Search prison OIS, BOP, or ICE only when the case facts support a transfer to that system.

A person can leave the North Central jail listing after a state-prison transfer. The prison side of OIS may then be the right current system. The current Wirt County Sheriff's Office website controls the present contact facts. It identifies Sheriff Michael “Mike” McFee and states that he has served since January 1, 2025. Older county material names a former sheriff and older domain, so current requests should use the active government site. The office address and law-enforcement number below are documented. No separate records email, release-record form, local retention schedule, or copy-fee schedule was found.

The sheriff's online contact form can begin contact, but call the law-enforcement line to identify the correct custodian and submission method. Do not publish the website's tax-office hours as law-enforcement records hours. The research confirms those posted weekday hours belong to the tax office, not a release-record desk. Ask the office directly about timing and approved delivery.

Request Wirt Sheriff Arrest Records

A narrow request is easier to route. State that the request concerns a Wirt County arrest or transport, give the full name and aliases, DOB if known, approximate date range, case or warrant number, and the destination facility. Name the existing record sought: arrest report, incident report, warrant execution, commitment paperwork, transport log, or locally retained file photograph. Keep the sheriff response with the WVDCR and court responses. An arrest report may supply an agency file number that helps the court or jail locate the same event. A transport log may name North Central and the delivery date, which narrows the booking range. Neither should be stretched beyond its purpose. If part of a record is withheld, preserve the written reason and ask for the segregable, nonexempt remainder. No verified local retention schedule was found, so a request may also ask which approved schedule governs an older arrest or transport record.

Wirt Warrants After Release

The sheriff maintains a searchable active-warrant list with names, some dates of birth, charges, court labels such as WIRT MAG or CIRCUIT, and an update timestamp. It can provide a useful legal-status clue after a release. A person may have left custody and later become subject to a capias or warrant. The list must still be confirmed with the sheriff and originating court.

A court event explains authority but does not prove the exact moment someone exited North Central. Bond still must be posted and conditions met. Another county warrant, federal writ, or immigration transfer can prevent community release. Compare the court record to WVDCR's departure transaction.

Note: Search both court levels when a felony began before a magistrate and later moved into Wirt Circuit Court.

Wirt Release Custody Handoff

Wirt's small-county structure has fewer official release channels than a county with its own jail. The Town of Elizabeth has no town police department or municipal jail. The sheriff and State Police handle local enforcement, while WVDCR holds the operational regional-jail custody record in another county. There is also no official Wirt or North Central 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. Generic directions to search a Wirt jail roster therefore point to a product that was not found.

The right chain is arresting agency to North Central, then court and any receiving custodian. If North Central reports community release, the departure record should state the method. If prison OIS shows a new placement, the event was a transfer. If VINE reports release, confirm what the reporting agency meant. If federal or immigration transfer is documented, use the federal docket, USMS, BOP, or ICE locator as the facts require.

For someone who was never booked into North Central, the sheriff record may be the main local source, but it still does not turn the sheriff's office into a jail. Ask what records exist and follow the named custodian. That disciplined routing is the clearest way to avoid treating an arrest event as a release event.

Wirt's regional model also means that a local case can produce records in more than one county. North Central sits in Doddridge County while serving Wirt and seven other counties. Use Wirt as the committing or sentencing county in a WVDCR request and include North Central by name. Those details help separate a Wirt matter from other people held at the same regional facility.
